Tasting Tips for Our Lobster Dishes

If you haven’t tried lobster before, then what are you waiting for?

Here at Big Easy, we serve up a range of delicious dishes containing lobster – and whether you’re in Covent Garden or Canary Wharf, you need to pop in and try it for yourself.

But wait, if you’ve never eaten lobster before, how do you know what to do?

The claws, shell and more make eating lobster a daunting task. But fear not – here at Big Easy, we make it easy (and delicious).

We’ve created this guide to help you enjoy lip-smacking lobster in the best way possible.

So let’s not waste any more time and get into it.

General Tips for Eating Lobster

Eating lobster is always a great experience, but it can also be a bit intimidating if you're not familiar with the process.

Here are some general tips to help you enjoy your lobster meal to the fullest, whether you're dining at your local Big Easy or having a lobster feast at home.

Tools of the Trade

  • Lobster Crackers: These are essential for breaking open the hard shells of the claws and knuckles. If you don't have lobster crackers, nutcrackers can also work in a pinch.
  • Lobster Picks: These long, thin tools are perfect for extracting the meat from the narrow legs and hard-to-reach areas of the shell. Believe us, once you’ve had a taste, you’ll want to make sure you get every bit.
  • Seafood Scissors: These can make it easier to cut through the shell, especially along the lobster's tail.
  • Napkins or Wet Wipes: Eating lobster can be messy (and so it should be). Dig in, don’t care about the mess, but make sure you have some napkins and wet wipes to clean up afterwards.

How to Enjoy Our Lobster Dishes

Now you know the basics, let’s get into the important bits.

When you visit Big Easy for a night of great live music and delicious food, it always helps to know what to expect.

We’re going to run through some of our most popular lobster dishes, giving tips and advice on how to make the most of them, so you can come prepared to impress your friends with your expert lobster knowledge.

Whole Lobster

Our whole lobster is steamed to perfection and served with your choice of lemon garlic butter or cocktail sauce.

This dish highlights the natural sweetness and tender texture of fresh lobster and is the ideal way to introduce yourself to this delicious seafood.

Tasting Tips

  • Freshness is Key: Lobster is best enjoyed fresh, and our whole lobster is no exception. The simpler the seasoning, the better you can appreciate its natural flavour.
  • Pairing: A great drink is always needed to partner your lobster. Our recommendation would be to pair iit with a crisp white wine such Sauvignon Blanc or a light beer. These drinks enhance the sweetness of the lobster without overpowering it.
  • Savouring the Meat: Take your time to enjoy the lobster meat. The lemon garlic butter adds a delightful richness, while the cocktail sauce provides a tangy contrast, so don’t rush. Take your time and enjoy every bite.

Lobster Rolls

Our lobster rolls offer a crunchy, creamy experience that's perfect for lunch or a light meal. Generous chunks of lobster are mixed with a light dressing and served in a toasted roll.

Tasting Tips

  • Sides Matter: Enjoy your lobster roll with a side of crispy fries or a light salad. These sides provide a pleasant contrast to the creamy lobster filling. And who doesn’t love great sides?
  • Brighten the Flavours: A squeeze of fresh lemon can brighten the flavours of the lobster roll, adding a refreshing citrus note that cuts through the richness.
  • Drink Pairing: Pair your lobster roll with a refreshing soft drink such as iced tea or a light ale. The subtle bitterness of these drinks balances the creamy lobster perfectly.

Lobster Mac 'n' Cheese

For those who love comfort food, our lobster mac 'n' cheese is a must-try. This dish combines tender chunks of lobster with rich, creamy macaroni and cheese.

Tasting Tips

  • Indulgence: Embrace the creamy, cheesy goodness of this dish. The richness of the mac 'n' cheese pairs wonderfully with the delicate lobster, so don’t be ashamed to indulge yourself with every spoonful.
  • Wine Pairing: A robust white wine like Chardonnay or a full-bodied beer can complement the richness of this dish.
  • Add Some Spice: If you enjoy a bit of heat, add a touch of hot sauce to your lobster mac 'n' cheese. The spice will add an extra layer of complexity to the dish, but remember not to go too far. The lobster is the star of the show here and provides enough flavour on its own to satisfy.

9oz Sirloin Steak & Half Lobster

Can't decide between land and sea?

Our 9oz sirloin steak paired with half a lobster is the perfect choice.

The steak is cooked to your liking and served alongside a garlic butter-soaked lobster.

Tasting Tips

  • Contrast: Enjoy the contrast between the savoury, juicy steak and the sweet, tender lobster. Each bite offers a delightful mix of flavours and textures, so don’t be scared to combine them.
  • Bold Pairings: Pair this dish with a bold red wine such as Cabernet Sauvignon or a dark ale. These drinks complement the rich flavours of both the steak and the lobster.
  • Savoury Satisfaction: Savour each bite, alternating between the steak and the lobster to fully-appreciate the combination of land and sea.

Lobster Bake

Our lobster bake is a rustic, hearty dish that includes lobster, mussels, clams, and potatoes, all served with a tasty sauce and sourdough bread.

Tasting Tips

  • Hearty Feast: This dish is perfect for those who love a communal meal. The variety of seafood and potatoes makes it a filling and satisfying option.
  • Sauce and Bread: Dip the sourdough bread in the sauce for an extra treat. The bread absorbs the juices, making each bite a delight.
  • Drink Choices: Pair with a dry rosé, light beer or one of our delicious cocktails. These drinks complement the seafood and enhance the overall dining experience.
